Section 512 of the New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law prohibits driving a vehicle with a suspended registration. In New York City, if you are caught driving with a suspended registration, you will most likely be issued a pink summons. It is important to respond to a summons for driving with a suspended registration since failure to answer a pink summons will eventually result in an arrest warrant being issued. I have represented numerous individuals charged with this misdemeanor offense. Once the suspension is cleared, a charge of violating VTL Section 512 will usually be dismissed. In the event that you are not able to clear the suspension, a favorable plea bargain, usually to NYC Admin. Code Section 10-179 (Disorderly Behavior), can often be negotiated. Since Section 512 of the VTL is a criminal charge in New York, it is important that you don't just plead guilty to this charge.
I am happy to discuss your options with you if you have been issued a pink summons charging you with this offense.
